The House Point System

Hampton East School has introduced a new House System to promote a sense of school pride, encourage team togetherness and provide students the opportunity to demonstrate our SWPBS school values; Be Kind, Be Safe & Be Your Best.

The House theme of Indigenous plants was decided after discussions with the students, our SRC team, staff and the wider school community.

Students and staff have also been placed into one of the four House Groups below:

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus trees, commonly called gum trees or stringybark trees in Australia, are a large genus of flowering plants native to Australia, including Tasmania and nearby islands. With over 700 species, they are characterized by aromatic leaves, distinctive bark, and a variety of sizes, including some of the tallest flowering plants on Earth. Eucalypts are known for their oil, which has therapeutic uses, and their adaptability to various environments, making them popular for landscaping.

Jacaranda

Jacaranda trees were first introduced to Australia over 150 years ago and have since become an integral part of the country’s landscape. The trees are native to South America but have thrived in Australia’s warm climate. Jacarandas range in size from shrubs to large trees. A jacaranda’s flowers are usually mauve, but some trees have beautiful blue flowers

Wattle

Acacia pycnantha, most commonly known as the golden wattle, is a tree of the family Fabaceae. It grows to a height of 8 metres and has phyllodes instead of true leaves. The profuse fragrant, golden flowers appear in late winter and spring, followed by long seed pods. Wattles are well recognised for their large fluffy, bright yellow, sweet-smelling heads almost hidden by long stamens, arranged in dense rounded or elongated clusters. There are over 1300 Acacias worldwide with 960 of these being native to Australia, the most notable of them all being the Golden Wattle.

Waratah

The beautiful waratah is not only the NSW floral emblem, it’s also one of the best-known Australian native plants. This iconic Australian bush flower can be found on sandstone ridges around Sydney, in nearby mountain ranges and on the NSW South Coast. Waratahs are spectacular garden plants. They produce bright red flowers in spring and attract a wide variety of birds.
